The board of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company has appointed Mohamed Sinan, former MP for Hithadhoo North, as managing director of Agro National Corporation.

AgroNat became a MIFCO subsidiary last month, and MIFCO's managing director, Mohamed Anas, was named its chairperson. The managing director's post had been vacant since Hussain Didi was dismissed on 6 April, after the ruling party's poor showing in the local council elections.

Sinan lost his seat after a unanimous Supreme Court ruling that he had forfeited it by failing to settle a debt under a court judgment. The debt was an MVR 5 million loan from Maldives Islamic Bank, which he repaid only after the matter reached the Supreme Court.
