Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel is set to participate in a meeting of OIC foreign ministers in Baghdad.
The gathering brings together ministers from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states to discuss shared concerns, including development cooperation, climate issues and regional stability.
The Maldives has indicated its interest in a more active role within the organisation. Participation in the Baghdad meeting provides an opportunity to advance that objective and to engage bilaterally with counterparts.
Preparations for the trip have been under way, with the minister expected to represent the country on matters of common interest to OIC members. Previous OIC engagements have covered topics ranging from economic cooperation to support for small island states.
The meeting forms part of the regular calendar of ministerial consultations within the organisation.
