Feevah police station project advances slowly despite land allocation

Construction of the new station in Shaviyani Feevah has made limited progress more than a year after a large plot was set aside and a contractor appointed.

Work on the new police station in Shaviyani Feevah continues at a slow pace despite the allocation of a large plot of land and the award of a construction contract last year.

The project was inaugurated in October 2025 during a presidential visit to the island, with the contract awarded to A Man Maldives for approximately MVR 14.7 million and an 18-month duration. Tenders for police stations on several islands, including Feevah, had been opened earlier that year by the Ministry of Finance following a request from the Maldives Police Service.

Local reports indicate that visible progress on site remains limited. The island council and residents have previously raised concerns about the pace of infrastructure works, including the police station, school expansion and waste-management facilities. President Mohamed Muizzu has previously directed that stalled atoll projects be reassigned where necessary without financial loss to the state.

Police infrastructure expansion forms part of a broader effort to establish stations on islands that previously lacked permanent facilities. Similar projects are under way or planned in other atolls.
