Residents of Haa Alifu Kelaa have been given one month to collect sand produced by dredging operations near Bandara.

The work has created a supply of sand that local farmers can use for agricultural purposes. The temporary allowance aims to support farming activity on the island by providing material that would otherwise be disposed of or left unused.

Dredging projects in the Maldives sometimes generate large volumes of sand that can be useful for land filling, construction or agriculture if properly managed. Local councils often coordinate with communities to distribute such material.

Farmers interested in collecting the sand are advised to follow the guidelines set by the relevant authorities regarding quantity and access. The one-month window is intended to clear the material efficiently while benefiting the community.

Similar arrangements have been made in other islands where reclamation or channel-clearing work produces usable sand.
