Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed met with lorry drivers who transport goods from Male' harbours to discuss challenges and road safety.
The meeting took place at the request of the drivers. The main topic was the need to make Male' roads safe for every user, including schoolchildren and pedestrians. Participants also discussed difficulties drivers face on one-way streets in the capital.
The ministry has already restricted the movement of heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 350 kg, forklifts, trucks, cranes and trailers between 06:00 and 08:30 on most Male' and Hulhumalé roads, as well as on the Sinamale' Bridge and Hiyaa. The restrictions do not apply to the main Boduthakurufaanu Magu.
Minister Saeed thanked the drivers for their cooperation. He said the discussions form part of broader efforts to regulate one-way traffic in Male' while involving the drivers who move cargo from the harbours.
