The Criminal Court has extended the detention of Ali Juman by a further 15 days as police investigate terrorism-related allegations arising from his social media posts.
Juman, 25, of Kullhavagge in Haa Alifu Baarah, was arrested on 22 October under a court order. Police are examining posts in which he allegedly urged the public to set fire to buildings and vehicles and loot Redwave outlets in protest against the government’s Rasmale’ deal with Eagle Hills. The court previously remanded him for 12 days.
In its latest order, the court cited public safety concerns and reviewed police intelligence reports, records of the posts, and complaints submitted by interested parties. Juman is also known online as Ali Juman Death or Dethu and has previously been detained during opposition protests.
A separate case involves former Deputy Minister Hassan Zihan, who was remanded over posts calling for arson at state institutions. Police have not announced charges in either matter.
