The Criminal Court has extended the detention of Ali Juman by a further 15 days.

Juman, 25, from Kuhlhavahge in Haa Alifu Baarah, was arrested on 22 October under a court order. Police are investigating him on suspicion of terrorism in connection with social media posts that allegedly called on the public to set fire to buildings and vehicles and to loot a shop.

The court had previously ordered a 12-day remand. After that period expired, it granted the additional 15-day extension, citing public safety concerns.

According to reports, Juman’s posts referred to the government’s Rasmalé project and urged people to take destructive action. Evidence submitted to the court includes police intelligence reports and records of posts from an account linked to him.

In a separate case, former Deputy Minister Hassan Zihan was also detained over social media posts that called for arson against state institutions.

Juman has previously been arrested during opposition protests.
