The Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to a Chinese company for the construction of a 15-storey integrated accommodation and logistics building at Kalhuthukkala Koshi.

The project, described by the Maldives National Defence Force as the largest infrastructure development in the history of the military, was awarded to Rotime Engineering and Technology Corporation Limited on a design-and-build basis. Work is scheduled for completion within two years. The total cost has not been disclosed.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Bandaara Koshi by Deputy Minister of Defence Fathimath Mizna Ali and the company's Managing Director Zhou Weidong. Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and other senior officers attended.

The building is intended to enhance military capabilities by providing accommodation and logistical support for operations. Officials have not explained why the design and construction of a facility at a sensitive military site was awarded to a foreign firm.

The contract aligns with earlier government statements on strengthening MNDF infrastructure and operational readiness.
