The Ministry of Defence and National Service has awarded a contract to China's Rotime Engineering and Technology Corporation Limited to construct a 15-storey integrated accommodation and logistics building at Kalhuthukkala Koshi.

The project, announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu earlier this year as part of efforts to strengthen military operational capabilities, is scheduled for completion within two years. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has described it as the largest infrastructure development project in the history of the military.

The agreement was signed on 2 November at a ceremony held at Bandaara Koshi. Deputy Minister of Defence Fathimath Mizna Ali signed on behalf of the ministry, while Managing Director Zhou Weidong signed for Rotime Engineering.

Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed attended the ceremony, along with Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, and other senior military and ministry officials.

The building is intended to provide accommodation and logistical support for military operations. Officials have not disclosed the total cost of the project, and it was awarded on a design-and-build basis.

This marks the latest major contract awarded to the Chinese firm, which has previously undertaken infrastructure work in the Maldives, including road developments in Hulhumalé.
