Maldivian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Thoriq Ibrahim met with UAE State Minister Saeed Al Hajeri on Thursday amid the continued detention of two Maldivian pilots.
The ambassador said the meeting covered “matters of mutual interest between the two countries.” No further details were provided.
The pilots, employees of Flydubai, were taken into custody on October 3 in connection with an alleged plot involving an Omani co-pilot on a Dubai-Tel Aviv flight on September 30. Families were informed by the Maldivian Embassy on October 8.
Reports indicate the detainees have been denied legal counsel, family contact, and consular access for over 12 days. The government has not issued a public statement.
The Omani co-pilot, Hamam al-Hammami, allegedly attacked the Indian captain. The two Maldivians are among six Maldivian pilots at the airline and are its most recent recruits from the country.
