Nila Coral Island Maldives has officially commenced commercial operations on the island of Koddegalu in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, becoming the third operational resort property in the southern atoll and introducing an exclusive ultra-luxury boutique hospitality concept to the region.
The Ministry of Tourism confirmed the official opening on Tuesday, stating that the introduction of high-end boutique properties in southern atolls aligns with national tourism development strategies ahead of the Visit Maldives Year 2027 campaign.
Boutique concept and regional connectivity
Nila Coral Island Maldives is tailored for bespoke privacy, accommodating a maximum of 40 guests across seven expansive oceanfront residences. The inventory features two-bedroom and three-bedroom luxury beachfront villas, complemented by a signature five-bedroom royal presidential residence offering dedicated butler services and private infinity plunge pools.
The retreat is located approximately 15 minutes by speedboat from Maavarulu Airport, providing swift transfer connections for travelers flying from Velana International Airport in Malé:
"The expansion of luxury boutique hospitality into Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll provides vital direct employment, supply chain contracts, and economic opportunities for southern island communities," the Ministry of Tourism remarked in an official statement.
The property joins Ayada Maldives and NH Collection Maldives Havodda Resort as the only resorts currently welcoming international tourists in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
Growing national resort bed capacity
According to the latest statistical bulletins published by the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives currently boasts 180 operational resorts providing a combined national capacity of 45,171 tourist beds.
Of the more than 1.6 million tourists who have holidayed in the country so far this year, roughly 1.2 million stayed in tourist resort properties. Industry analysts note that demand for ultra-exclusive boutique properties offering authentic island seclusion has surged, supporting state projections of sustained revenue growth across southern aviation and tourism corridors.
