Former president and MDP chairperson Mohamed Nasheed has launched a collection of short stories titled “80 ge kureekolhu”.
The book was released at a special ceremony held at Don Maniku Skyview Restaurant. Nasheed’s eldest daughter, Zuhaira Umar, formally launched the volume.
Nasheed said the stories were written between the late 1980s and early 1990s, including during the period when he was under house arrest after being moved from prison in 1994. He stressed that the book is not a political work connected to his later career.
The collection includes stories such as “Chaala Zamaan”, “Hithaa i hithuge gulhun”, “Moosabaru”, “Gaumee mashroo” and “Reethi hadhiyaa”.
Speaking at the event, Nasheed said stories are the best way to understand how events unfold and that a nation is built on shared narratives.
The book is priced at MVR 250. Before entering politics, Nasheed worked as a journalist and writer. His other well-known books include “Dhagandu dhahana”, “Killaa Male’”, “Dhe radhun”, “Ehbassveyvey ingilaabu” and “Veri ehge nimun”.
The launch adds a literary title to Nasheed’s published works from his earlier years.
