First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called on the public to observe health and safety standards when engaging in home gardening.

In a message marking Farmers’ Day, she noted that modern technology allows meaningful food production even in small spaces, contributing to greener environments, cleaner air and better access to fresh produce. She specifically urged people to maintain proper hygiene and safety practices while gardening.

The First Lady also encouraged every citizen to take an interest in growing plants and food at home. Her remarks align with the government’s broader push to increase domestic food production and reduce import dependence.

President Mohamed Muizzu issued a separate message on the same day stressing the national importance of local agriculture.
