Thick haze continues to blanket large parts of the Maldives, with the Meteorological Service warning that reduced visibility and poorer air quality are likely to persist for several more days.

Northern atolls remain the most affected, while central islands including Malé have also recorded elevated particulate levels. Southern atolls have largely stayed in the moderate range. The haze is attributed to fine particles carried by northeasterly winds from the Indian subcontinent.

Health authorities have reiterated advice for vulnerable groups to limit outdoor exposure. Seafarers have been advised to exercise caution because of the lower visibility.

The phenomenon is seasonal and typically intensifies during the transition toward the northeast monsoon.
