Tourist arrivals in October have reached 79,529 so far this month, representing a 3.9 per cent decline compared with the same period last year, according to Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation statistics.
From 1 to 14 October last year, 82,770 arrivals were recorded. The year-to-date total for 2026 stands at 1,682,550 visitors, down 3.4 per cent from the equivalent period in 2025.
The figures come as the Maldives continues to monitor performance across source markets. While some markets such as Australia have shown growth, overall monthly totals have been softer in the current period.
Tourism remains the primary driver of the economy, contributing the bulk of foreign exchange earnings and supporting employment across resorts, guesthouses and related services. Officials track daily and monthly arrivals closely and adjust marketing and connectivity measures in response.
The slight decline follows a period of recovery and expansion after earlier disruptions. Further updates are expected as the month progresses and as peak season approaches.
