Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, is preparing to launch direct flights to Pakistan.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement during his ongoing official visit to Pakistan. An Memorandum of Understanding on establishing the direct services was signed as part of the visit.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif indicated that the country’s national carrier, PIA, is also expected to begin flights to the Maldives in the near future.
Direct air links operated by both Maldivian and PIA are expected to benefit both countries by increasing tourist arrivals from Pakistan and facilitating cargo movement that could support Maldivian businesses.
The Maldives has been seeking to expand air connectivity with Pakistan to boost tourism and trade. The new services form part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral economic ties during the presidential visit.
Further details on schedules and launch dates are expected in the coming period.
