Maldivian, the national carrier, has added the first Beechcraft King Air 360 to its fleet, introducing an eight-seat aircraft aimed at luxury tourism and private charter services.

The twin-engine turboprop, manufactured by Textron Aviation, arrived at Velana International Airport and is being deployed in partnership with Nilaa Coral Island Resort in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The resort, operated by Itaca Home Maldives, opened in mid-October with 20 rooms.

The King Air 360 features a pressurised cabin, allowing higher-altitude flight than typical seaplanes and enabling night operations. Maldivian said the aircraft will provide direct transfers to the resort and will also be available for private charters within the Maldives, reducing reliance on connecting seaplane flights for some guests.

Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas described the addition as a step in expanding the airline’s premium travel offering in response to demand for more personalised services. Maldivian currently operates a fleet of 25 aircraft, including Airbus widebody and narrowbody jets, ATR and Dash 8 turboprops, and Twin Otter seaplanes.

The introduction marks the first operation of the King Air 360 type in the Maldives. Official photographs show the aircraft, registered N959SS, on the tarmac with airline and resort branding.

The move expands options for high-end resort transfers at a time when the tourism sector continues to adapt to changing guest expectations for speed and comfort.
