Re-export earnings in the Maldives totalled USD 314.9 million in the first nine months of 2026, an increase of 48.5 percent from USD 212 million in the corresponding period of 2025.
Maldives Monetary Authority statistics attribute much of the growth to expanded sea-to-air cargo operations. Jet fuel and other high-value items form a substantial share of the re-export trade. Improved connectivity at Velana International Airport has supported the rise in transhipment activity.
The figures indicate that re-exports are becoming a more significant contributor to foreign-exchange inflows alongside tourism. Officials have noted that efficient cargo handling and competitive pricing help attract regional traffic.
Growth in this segment also reflects broader efforts to diversify the economy. However, the sector remains sensitive to global fuel prices and air-cargo demand. Analysts will watch whether the momentum continues into the final quarter.
The Monetary Authority’s regular reports provide further breakdowns by commodity. Business groups have welcomed the data as evidence that logistics investments are yielding returns.
