The Maldives has officially launched its Visit Maldives Year 2027 campaign under the theme Celebrate Maldives at the World Travel Market in London.
Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen addressed industry partners and media at the event, describing the year as a shared national effort to showcase Maldivian identity, hospitality and experiences.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu designated 2027 as Visit Maldives Year during his presidential address. The campaign aligns with the United Nations International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism, which the Maldives helped advance.
Ameen noted that arrivals have recovered steadily after earlier disruptions linked to Middle East events and higher travel costs. Between January and October 2026 the country received 1,762,751 tourists, with Europe accounting for 56.9 percent. China remained the largest source market.
A delegation of 161 representatives, including participants from 62 tourism companies, is attending WTM London. The Maldives will also serve as official host country at ITB Berlin 2027.
Officials said the multi-year initiative aims to link resort tourism more closely with local island communities and expand opportunities for Maldivian businesses.
