Maldives Gas will temporarily reduce the quantity of cooking gas filled into cylinders starting Saturday, 7 November, citing rising global prices and difficulties importing supplies.
Under the new arrangement, 10 kg cylinders will contain 7 kg of gas, 22 kg cylinders will contain 14 kg, and 45 kg cylinders will contain 31 kg. Customers will continue to be charged only for the actual weight supplied at the existing rate per kilogram.
The company described the measure as temporary and said the government is working on bulk storage facilities that would allow a three-month reserve to be held at once. Once completed, the project is expected to reduce the risk of future supply disruptions.
Maldives Gas, a subsidiary of the State Trading Organisation, has previously rationed cylinder fills during periods of international market pressure, including earlier this year. The latest adjustment follows similar steps taken by other suppliers in response to global conditions.
