Maldives Gas temporarily reduces cylinder fill quantities from 7 November

The state-owned company will supply less gas in standard cylinders while keeping the price per kilogram unchanged, citing import difficulties.

Maldives Gas will reduce the amount of cooking gas it fills into cylinders starting Saturday, 7 November, in response to rising global prices and difficulties importing liquefied petroleum gas.

Under the temporary arrangement, 10 kg cylinders will contain 7 kg of gas, 22 kg cylinders will contain 14 kg, and 45 kg cylinders will contain 31 kg. Customers will continue to pay the existing rate per kilogram and will be charged only for the actual quantity supplied.

The company said the measure is intended to keep supplies available while it works to improve import procedures. It also noted that the government is advancing a project to expand storage capacity so that the country can hold a three-month reserve of gas.

Maldives Gas previously limited sales and reduced fill volumes in March amid Middle East market disruptions, and raised prices for larger cylinders in June. Officials have said the current step is temporary and that normal quantities will resume once supply conditions improve.

The announcement comes as households prepare for higher seasonal demand. The company has assured customers that the unit price will not increase under the new arrangement.
