Maldives Gas has announced temporary reductions in the quantity of gas filled into cylinders due to ongoing difficulties in importing supplies and rising global prices.
Starting Saturday, 10kg cylinders will contain 7kg of gas, 22kg cylinders will hold 14kg, and 45kg cylinders will be filled with 31kg. Customers will pay based on the actual weight at the existing rate per kilogram.
The company described the measures as temporary. It noted that the government is advancing a bulk storage project intended to hold a three-month supply, which is expected to address the import constraints once completed.
Previous adjustments have occurred this year amid supply pressures linked to the Middle East conflict. In March, sales were limited and fill volumes reduced. In June, prices for larger cylinders were increased.
The latest changes aim to manage available stocks while a longer-term solution is developed.
