The Maldives and Pakistan have agreed to increase bilateral trade to USD 200 million over the next two years.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the target following talks with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in Islamabad. The leaders discussed opportunities in trade, investment, tourism and connectivity.
President Muizzu described the two countries as holding significant untapped potential for each other. The agreement is one of several outcomes from the ongoing state visit, during which 20 agreements and memoranda of understanding were exchanged.
Pakistan has also pledged support for the Maldives' environmental programmes, including materials for the five million tree planting initiative. Further cooperation in health, defence and other sectors was also discussed.
The visit is expected to strengthen longstanding ties between the two nations.
