Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has warned against turning political differences into campaigns targeting foreign investors.
He urged opposition movements to stop spreading misinformation and intimidating those seeking to invest in the Maldives. The remarks come as the government continues efforts to attract foreign capital for development projects across the atolls.
Saeed emphasised that political disagreements should not undermine the investment climate. Foreign investment remains important for infrastructure, tourism and other sectors that support employment and economic growth.
The government has previously outlined incentives and streamlined processes aimed at encouraging both local and overseas participation in key projects. Officials have stated that a stable and predictable environment is necessary to sustain interest from international partners.
The minister’s comments highlight ongoing debates around the role of foreign capital in national development and the need to separate economic policy from political contestation.
