Domestic flight prices have been held flat for three years in a measure intended to protect tourism on islands outside the Greater Malé area, according to the Civil Aviation Minister.

The policy seeks to maintain affordable air links between the capital and the atolls, supporting both residents and visitors who travel for leisure or business. Island tourism depends heavily on reliable and reasonably priced domestic connections.

Officials have noted that keeping fares stable helps sustain demand for resorts and guesthouses in outer atolls. The decision forms part of broader efforts to distribute tourism benefits more widely across the country.

The ministry continues to monitor domestic aviation capacity and pricing. Several operators provide scheduled services on key routes, and the government has encouraged expansion of connectivity where feasible.

Stable domestic fares are viewed as one tool among others, including infrastructure improvements and marketing support, aimed at strengthening tourism outside the main hubs.
