President Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the national airline Maldivian will soon begin direct flights between the Maldives and Karachi, Pakistan.
The statement came during the president’s state visit to Pakistan, where the two countries discussed expanded air connectivity alongside trade, tourism and business cooperation.
Direct flights are expected to facilitate easier travel for tourists, business travellers and families. The route forms part of broader efforts to raise bilateral trade and people-to-people contacts.
Maldivian currently operates regional and international services. Adding Karachi would open a new link to a major Pakistani city and support the goal of increasing trade volumes.
Officials on both sides have identified air services as a practical measure to complement the agreements signed during the visit. Exact schedules and start dates will depend on operational preparations by the airline and aviation authorities.
The announcement aligns with discussions on tourism promotion and economic partnership. Pakistani leaders have expressed interest in stronger visitor flows from and to the Maldives.
