Bank of Maldives (BML) has been included in Forbes' World's Top Performing Banks 2026 list, a ranking compiled in partnership with market research firm Statista.
The inaugural edition evaluates 500 banks from 89 countries based on objective financial metrics rather than size or brand perception alone. BML secured a place in Tier 6, which covers institutions with total assets ranging from $3 billion to $10 billion. Within this peer group, the bank was assessed against similarly sized financial institutions worldwide.
The ranking examined four core areas: profitability, growth and revenue quality, capital and funding strength, and asset quality and efficiency. Data sources included audited financial statements, reports from major providers and independent research.
BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef described the recognition as confirmation of the bank's consistent performance. He noted that it reflects a strong capital base and sound management practices that have long been evident in the bank's results.
The bank has framed the listing as a milestone for the Maldivian financial sector, positioning a domestic institution alongside peers from other markets. As the country's largest bank, BML continues to expand its network of services for individuals, businesses and the broader economy through lending, deposits and digital channels.
Recent financial disclosures show the bank recorded a net profit of MVR 1.93 billion for the first nine months of 2026, a 26 percent increase on the same period the previous year. Capital adequacy stood well above regulatory requirements at the end of September.
The Forbes ranking provides an external benchmark that places BML's results in an international context limited to banks of comparable scale. It does not alter the bank's domestic obligations or its role supporting the local economy.
